TATA IPL Player Auction 2023 concluded on Sunday and an estimated INR 37.85 crore was spent in a frenzied bidding war by eight teams competing to secure the services of the country’s best cricket talent.

The teams came prepared with bags of money and expectedly, World Cup-winning speedsters Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, along with the highly rated batsman Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, were the top buys.

Jasprit Bumrah, who is India’s premier pace bowler, secured the highest number of bids and was finally bought by Mumbai Indians for a whopping INR 11 crore. He is currently the best bowler in the world and will be expected to add strength to Mumbai Indians’ attack.

Hardik Pandya also attracted the attention of all eight teams, who were keen to include him in their squads. Eventually, the all-rounder was bought by Delhi Capitals for INR. 10 crore. Apart from these two, another star Indian bowler who found himself highly rated in the auction was the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. The franchise spent INR 8.5 crore to acquire his services.

In the batting department, Virat Kohli, the current Indian team’s star batsman, was highly sought after, and eventually Royal Challengers Bangalore won the race by paying INR 13.21 crore. Former Indian captain MS Dhoni was taken by Chennai Super Kings for INR 7 crore.

Apart from the Indian stars, there were several foreign players who grabbed their share of spotlight. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan was the most expensive overseas player, bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 3.2 crore.
